Rules for commenting

Lately we’ve been dealing with topics that produce strong emotions or on which people take hard-line positions. Be wary when emotions and logic collide.

Disagreements are fine. Correct errors in math. Use valid logic. Citing sources is excellent!

No FUD (but inductive logic is OK, as are valid questions about the reliability of sources). No ad hominem (see also “use valid logic”.)

Discussions of social impact are OK, but beware the fallacy of “appeal to consequence”.

Alternative theories are fine, but they must be either prima facie credible or be accompanied by some damn fine argument for them.

Empiricism rules, data trumps, lore is not an argument.

When in doubt, I will decide. This is not a democracy.
